The transfer window and permits: why the file is won before the signature
The transfer window has a closing date, the permit procedure does not. How clubs that plan ahead turn this mismatch into an advantage.

Football has institutionalised urgency: a transfer window, a closing date and final hours in which everything is decided. The administration has no deadline day. The permit procedure for a third-country player takes the time its examination takes, whether the transfer window closes in six weeks or in six hours.
This mismatch is not an anomaly to lament, it is a fact to build in. Registering the transfer and the player's eligibility are matters for football's governing bodies; the right to work in Switzerland is a matter for the canton and the SEM. Two counters, two calendars and a single meeting point: the date the club wants to see the player on the team sheet.
What the clubs that plan ahead do
They treat the administrative side as part of the negotiation, not as a post-signature formality. In practice: the player's nationality and family situation are examined from the first serious discussion; the list of documents goes to the agent before the final agreement; and the contract is drafted from the outset on customary Swiss conditions, salary included, rather than corrected after a first response from the authority.
The gain is not theoretical. A file that is complete on the day of filing avoids the round trip for further information, which is the real cause of lost weeks. And a club able to tell the agent, evidence in hand, where the procedure stands negotiates more calmly than one discovering the steps at the same time as the player.
The honest promise
No one can guarantee a decision, or its date: it rests with the authorities. What can be guaranteed is the quality of a file that is complete at the time of filing and a reverse schedule held from the target date. That is exactly the scope of our engagement, and it is already what separates a transfer under control from a transfer endured.
