Other residence permits and naturalisation

Ordinary naturalisation, a file to build before it is filed

The law sets years of residence, a language level and integration criteria. Each canton adds its own rules. We calculate your position, fill the gaps and present the file.

For whom

An individual, a couple, a family

The individual

You hold a C permit and wonder whether your years of residence, language level and financial situation are enough. We count them with you, with supporting documents, before anything is filed.

The couple with children

Spouses generally apply together. The law also looks at how each encourages and supports the integration of their spouse and minor children. We coordinate the family's documents.

The child included in the application

Minor children living with the parent are as a rule included in the parent's naturalisation (Art. 30 SCA). From the age of twelve, their integration is assessed separately, according to their age.

The requirements of the law

A C permit, ten years of residence and successful integration

The SEM grants the federal authorisation only if the formal and substantive requirements are met. The canton then decides.

The procedure

Two stages: the Confederation, then the canton

The canton designates the authority that receives the application. It examines the file, then forwards it to the SEM if it gives a favourable opinion.

Our work

What we do for you

  • Calculation of the years of residence, federal and cantonal, including the doubling of the early years
  • Check of the certified language level and, where needed, referral to a recognised test
  • Verification of debt enforcement records, social assistance received and criminal record
  • Drafting of the file and filing with the competent commune or canton
  • Preparation for the interview and for the questions on life in Switzerland
  • Follow-up until the decision and replies to requests for further information

The documents

What generally needs to be gathered

  • Passport, C permit and residence certificates covering the years of residence
  • Recognised language certificate, or proof of schooling in a national language
  • Employment contracts, salary certificates or proof of education
